When am I getting married?

Never Have I done this… but I loved how I wrote my final response to this facebook question/note I had to keep it for all time! Read as I blast this chick into outerspace!

This question has been posed to me a million and one times the recent weeks/months in light of quite a few of my close friends getting engaged and/or married. My standard answer of, “I’ll get married when I’m good and ready, which may be never.” has gone pretty much unchanged since I was a young pup. Although I highly doubt the latter to be the case when all is said and done. I do see myself marrying one day……

Nevertheless, I came across the following quote this morning that sums up my views on marriage succinctly, and what it really means and why I’m just not ready.

“A wedding is an event — a marriage is a lifelong commitment. One asks you to be an adult in your choices — the other, a child.”

Simply put, anyone can get married. I think the quote oversimplifies things a bit but not by much. It’s not hard getting a marriage license, having a ceremony and saying “i do” says nothing about one’s maturity, faithfulness and place in life. Basically having a wedding is child’s play. Getting married aka hitched aka tying the knot is NOT the same as having a “marriage.”

Same root word, totally different in execution and levels of dedication required for success.

To be honest I don’t think most people are honest in their assessments of themselves and how fit they are for marriage. If they were divorce rates wouldn’t be where they are, you wouldn’t have legions of unhappy people dreading to come home to their “life” partners and you wouldn’t have all of this infidelity in these “holy” unions. I think the underlying motivations for people getting married are a big part of the problem but that’s a discussion for another day.

Marriage can be a beautiful thing… I support the institution 100%, so please don’t take me to be cynic, but there’s something to be said for being real with myself and where I’m at as a person. Bottom line, quit asking me the damn question.

So you’re thinking about getting married, huh? To hell with the whole institution. If two people are together… then two people are together. Why do people need a piece of paper to prove that they will be faithful to one another? I don’t want to hear that corny shyt of pledging your vows before God either. If “God” is supposed to be this omniscient being, he/she/it should know what’s in your heart. I think if people want to become husband and wife, they should make the vows between each other without all of the fanfare.

Hell… all sorts of beasts have monogamous relationships. Take the North American wolf for example. One partner for life. No wedding, yet the wolves are committed to one another for life.

People get married for all sorts of artificial reasons. That’s why the shyt doesn’t last. About 90% of the women I meet (mainly the good-looking ones) are looking for that “meal ticket”, not love. Most guys are looking for a Trophy or a girl to be their servant, not love.

most of the aforementioned religions are based on the same grassroot belief that there is a higher power(s) which exist for guidance in our spiritual and waking life, so the ‘which God’ is neither here nor there.

as for the percentage who don’t subscribe to a particular religion, it’s safe to assume they live a life of mostly good according to societal norms, which in most countries are based on the dominating religion.

aside from that aspect, i can agree that people tend to focus on the idea of mariagge (the ceremony) and not the actual application, however that does not mitigate the bond that ‘piece of paper’ represents. The same could be said for a college diploma.

Yes, for the most part, you have always been a mature person, despite your age. However, there were other areas (only your words in previous conversations can be referenced) where growth was needed and it appears you have matured in those areas as well.

I can agree with Nieman to a point; people get married for the wrong reasons and I believe your commentary states that. However, as a good looking woman (*ahem* Marcus can attest) that is NOT looking for a meal ticket, but for a man that God has prepared for her and ONLY her; paper is not what defines the relationship, but the covenant made before God. The paper is man-made, yet necessary in the event of sickness or death (which are apart of your marriage vows before God).

I think many women, myself included, have also had to mature past wanting the “wedding day” and to begin preparing for marriage as a life partner and true help-mate. Enjoy your banana!

Personally, I’d love to be loved by a man as Christ loves the church. Money may be long, but life is short. Money can’t buy happiness, but faith can. Marriage may not be for all, but I hope it is for me. It only takes one other, of a like mind, to make that happen.

Screw the decisions of the many. This planet is being destroyed by all those who choose to disregard the effects their selfish ways have on it. One shouldn’t consider the actions of these same people when determining how to spend the rest of one’s life with a person they love. In other words, who the many choose to serve/not to serve is worthless information.

Needless to say, my marriage will be as personal as my relationship with God. I tend to Him as He tends to me, therefore, I’ll tend to him as he tends to me. It will be between us. “Nothing even matters, at all…”

Too often we just accept what we are told because we are too apathetic to do the research or challenge anything that seems out of place due to its acceptance as the law of the land. Most times we are just fearful of the truth because it is frightening to think that what we thought we knew is just smoke and mirrors.

It is sad that so many of us accept Authority as the Truth instead of Truth as the Authority. Oh, and please… don’t argue the Faith/Truth thing… Faith is the antithesis of Truth. It is simply to believe what you cannot prove whereas truth = proof.

Well I finally got tired of answering all of the questions about what the hell it is I have on my left hand all the time. It is called the Tri-Cap or 3Cap. It is an original design by the acclaimed French jewelry designer, Valou.

When I first donned the ring it was only in 3 places in the world. Paris, New York & LA. I decided to bring it to Houston, TX. It has very much become apart of my sty lo. Its hard to catch me out without it on. Its a real conversation piece and it always brings attention. People usually compare it to brass knuckles and ask me if I’m a fighter, but then say that its cool once they see it up close. People try it on and everything.

I’m saying this because I believe it will become a popular jewelry piece in the near future. I’m offering you a chance to be ahead of the curve before mainstream gets a hold of it. Soon, then I will have to move to the next version of it The women’s versions look better than the men’s so check them out at Valou’s website. Get one and tell her I sent you… she may hook you up.

Not sure how this will come out. I’m away from my PC & I’m trying out this feature where I can blog from my phone.

Let’s see. I have been extremely busy (as always) with work. taking on project after project. I’ve teamed up (unofficially) with 2 of the hottest designers in town. Be looking out for a real shake up in the Houston Design World. We plan on shuttin it down. I will put out some new work soon in an entry.

Had some ill-fate with my so-called friend that was sparked by me dismantling him in the “Athletic Challenge.” (Before the video) I think its just a clash of lifestyles. I’m too wild for the brother to be around. Most people can’t handle the unknown. He makes 1 of em. I won’t get too deep into it, but fcuk dude for the shyt he said. That’s it, I don’t have the time for that petty BS.

Look out for my new websites I’m about to put out. I’m developing a movie website & a graphic novel one. The movie website should be out within a couple of weeks. I will blast it.

Well I’m almost to my destination. I have to pick up some $$ from a client. I need an assistant! Anywho, Peace & Hair Grease.

“Start spreadin’ the news…”

I thought I’d share my 1st New York trip with the world… enjoy!

Day 1: The Arrival

August 13th, 2008. I haven’t slept purposely so that I can sleep on the plane. It helps me reduce the anxiety of flying. Its about 9 a.m. and my plane leaves at 11:30ish. I haven’t packed. I just realize that some of my clothes are in the cleaners. I haven’t arranged a ride to the airport either. Hell I just got an ID (lost my old one) 2 days prior. I call moms. She talks to me on the phone still sleep. Then she asks me to get her some special type of Coffee from a store that’s not up the street. WTF! I am forced to agree.

Somehow, we get outta there by around 10:30 and to the airport at about 11. I like to travel in the middle of the week to avoid the crowds. I’m traveling cheap though so I don’t arrive to New York until about 7:30. On the plane ride I got the birds eye view of the Statue of Liberty. She seemed small, but I guess I was high in the sky. At the airport I meet up with ol Kevo and we catch a cab to Hasan’s place. While in New York we stayed with Hasan. Big ups to my homey for showin’ us love.

The cab driver must have been a retired Arab race car driver or something because homeboy was gettin it! We arrive in Midtown, Manhattan in what must have seemed like 15 minutes in traffic! By far the best cab driver I have ever seen. Scary though.

Hasan stays in a great area on 37th St & 9th Ave.

We settle down at Hasan’s. Then we get lucky and Hasan had some chicken he needed to cook so he threw down for his boys. Check it out:

After we ate we were tryin to figure out what to do. It was wednesday and “Tropic Thunder” just came out. (Check out my review over on XtraButter.com.) The fellas were talkin bout goin to this premier strip club with some hot Dominican dancers. I don’t enjoy teasin myself all that much so I decided to go to the movie instead. I thought I persuaded Kev & Hasan to check it out to, but then they ditched me right at the box office. I guess I’m lame. I just prefer a good movie over strip clubs. Call it what you want.

Day 2: The Jew

Hasan shows us this corner store across the street where they make these great bacon egg & cheese croissants. They were damn good! Its Thursday and I needed to work on the computer while Kev and Hasan went shopping. This became a familiar pattern because I needed to finish up some stuff while in NY.

Fast Forward to later that night. My friend, Hasan’s sister, Chandra’s husband Jameel’s friend the coordinator from “Making the Band 4″ was having a birthday at this little Kareoke spot. We were having drinks and enjoying ourselves. Jameel gave his rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” He was rather good. It was funny at the time to me because I had already signed up for another Prince song off of the same album “Beautiful Ones.” At the beginning of the song I was not doing so well. The mic was terrible and it wasn’t picking me up. I should have done a mic check 1st.

I kept thinking that if I could only get to the bridge I’d be ok. Once I got to the middle of the song I started groovin. I felt the crowd pick up a little bit and so I started flowin with them. I dropped to my knees in some parts and was on the floor trying my best to mimic Prince in that scene in the movie Purple Rain:

Yeah… your boy was on the floor just like that! Needless to say I rocked the joint after that. I was a drink away from being drunk too. I’m just glad I redeemed myself in the second half of the song.

I joined the crew back at the table and then we took a pic.

After the Kareoke spot Kev, Hasan & I stumbled out of the spot and caught a cab to the next club. Now mind you, I had no picture ID. I had a paper ID and my birth certificate in my pocket. When get to the next spot the door dude is askin me all sorts of questions to prove my age and where I’m from. Askin me shyt like, where’s Pappadeaux’s and Luby’s. I was like, “That’s the hottest spot you can name in Houston? Luby’s?” After the line of questioning he was about to let me in then he noticed the ring I had on my finger. It is the ring I have on in the picture above. Its called a Tricap designed by a French jewelry designer Valou. (Check it out. Say that I referred you and she will take care of you). Dude was said, and I quote “Yo, son… it looks like you gonna stop a fuckin train with that thing on.” I chuckled and gave it to him and his muscle bound friend to hold while I got my party on downstairs.

I don’t know if you’ve ever partied with NEIM before, but sometimes with the right mixture of drinks (usually cognac) I get in what people like to call “Rare Form.” If you ever catch me in this state… tag along because its gonna be a fun time! We get downstairs and some dude likes one of the girls we are with and decides to impress her by buying a round of drinks. I’m like… do it! Now, I’m really in a zone. What zone that is… is up for interpretation.

I find a seat at this random booth and discover a black hat. It is a Jewish style hat. My drunk ass decides to put it on. I’m up dancin around talkin to chicks at the bar with this rather small Jewish hat on. Out of the corner of my eye I see the owner of the hat. I decided to beat him to the punch and offer back his hat. To make it up to him I offered to buy him a drink. He resended my offer and then offered me a drink instead. I was not about to play coy so I accepted.

I introduced myself and he told me his name was Shmea. I couldn’t believe it. This was the first Jew I ever met with a Ya mica on. We had a drink with a couple of chicks and then he said to come with him to get on some hoes. I was like… lets do it Shmea!!

Before we made it out to the dance floor we took a quick break through the other part of the club that was closed to the public. Right then and there I should of known this guy had pull because we walked right past security into the empty bar to pour some drinks. I was really fcuked up now!

We headed back out to the dance floor and Shmea showed off his wild side! This dude was dancin all the way to the ground and sometimes on it. The women didn’t know what to do with him. I was impressed. So then I started goin hard and we were havin a great time. I forgot all about Kev and Hasan. I guess they were getting bored because they came to tell me they were leaving. I was in the middle of grindin on some girl and decided ok.

By the time I walked upstairs Hasan and Kev had already taken off without me. Bastards! I fcuked up my groove. Door dude must have felt my vibe because now he was being cool with me and shyt. He actually used me to holla at this chick sayin I was a Texas start featuring at his party on Saturday. Afterwards he said he’d give me VIP access to come to his spot. I couldn’t figure out why.

I was like, I’m goin back in. I hooked back up with Shmea on the dance floor and he was telling me to roll with him to the Hampton’s for the last weekend of fun. Everything in me was like… do it. But I knew that I had to go to the Yankees game the next day with Tarvia. I couldn’t let her down. So I had to pass. Then I proceeded to dance some more. Caught a cab and then laid it down. I had a pretty damn fun night. Oh, by the way… the Jewish guy Shmea… I found out later that he owned the joint!!

Day 3: Chicken or Beef

In the middle of my slumber in the morning, Hasan orders some more of those croissants. Yum, Yum! I eat it and go back to sleep. Once again I stay at home while the fellas go out and play. I had work to do.

Later that day we were supposed to meet Tarv and Chandra to go to the Yankees game. It was raining. we were debating the entire time whether or not we were going to go. Tarv said to meet her at the corner of 42nd and 6th. That was a little bit of a hike… in the rain. Here is the route.

Let me first give Tarv her propers… her nickname is Tarv “the Great.” Now that I got that out of the way… Tarv had us standing in the rain for at least a frickin hour! We were hollywood’d in New York. Tarv kept sayin she was on the way… but didn’t get there till like 2 hours later. It was cool though, because it gave me a chance to observe the sexy ladies of the city. Wowsers.

I was hungry. We headed back to Hasan’s crib to get some eats. We ordered Chinese although I really wanted Thai. Kev was givin me a hard time talkin about don’t be so difficult. In other words, go with the group. If you know me… I don’t like to follow. I go with the Chinese. I suggest when we order that we share the different dishes. No one must have heard me. Food gets there and I’m in trade mode. I wanted some of what they had because it was actually better. While Hasan was in the kitchen Kev traded a chicken for a chicken out of Hasan’s dish. Hasan had Sesame Chicken and Kev had General Tso’s. Now, later on I asked Hasan for a piece of chicken. It looked as if he was giving me the piece that Kev left in there so I said I wanted a different piece because that was Kev’s Tso’s chicken.

Now… all I wanted was a piece of Sesame chicken. Kev gets all in an uproar saying that I was dry snitching. What?! What kind of petty shyt is that? Why in the hell would I snitch about a fcukin piece of poultry?! Are you kidding. This nigga got heated and then we had a verbal exchange for like 5-10 minutes. Definetly a nigga moment. What am I… 5 years old? Why the fcuk would I be concerned about tellin on someone for trading out a piece of chicken. That shyt was stupid. Although Kev could only see the ignorant side of it. He was so upset that he could not take a step back and assess the situation to see how petty and benign the argument was. This dude held this grudge all weekend over this dumb flightless bird.

So, later after watching some Olympics, I suggested heading over to this spot called Pop Burger. I saw it on the Travel Channel once and I wanted to check it out. Hasan said he wanted to show me this area. It is in the meat packing district. One of the spots he showed me was immaculate! It is called Buddakan. Check out the link. Every room and/or area seemed like a different place. I was definetly impressed. the whole part of Manhattan was impressive. It was my type of area.

We then proceeded to Pop Burger. This place was very eclectic. It was like a lounge bar that features burgers. The front is like a space aged diner where you can order in or to go. The back are was very chic and they were playing that movie “Breakin” on projectors. Near the bathroom they had what seemed to be a picture booth. Alas it was a booth with a curtain with a little TV playing hardcore porn. I was like, whoa… this place is cool. Then I got the menu and saw that the pop burgers cost $15. Pop Burgers are little miniature gourmet burgers. They were good, but grossly overpriced. The drinks were $16 so it was very swank. Fcuk it… it was more expensive eatin, but it was a more pleasurable meal then the chicken, ya dig?

Afterwards we caught a cab back to the crib to lay it down. We had to go to the Yankees game for sure the next day because we were runnin outta time. It was a day game.

Day 4: Extra

We woke up on time and got ready for the game. The Yankees were playing the Royals. I figured they wold clober them. We meet Jameel, Chandra & Tarvia at the ferry. They were coming from New Jersey. We caught a car to the Bronx and to Yankee Stadium.

This is the last season for one of the most storied stadiums in sports history. We had to go to a game before they tore it down. It had a highschool stadium feel underneath the rafters. It felt old. Kev was havin a nostalgic moment saying that he had always wanted to play for the Yankees. I thought dude was about to tear up.

1st we had to get tickets. This is one of the reasons why Tarv is great. She hooked the tickets up at $200 a pop! Yankees game a la Tarv. Our seats were down on the lower level behind the plate. We were right in the shade. While I sat down next to this guy from Connecticut, Kev went lookin for a Yankees hat to buy. That was a pretty good idea now that I look back on it. Have something from the stadium I guess. I will settle for my ticket stub.

The game lacked offense. It was 2-2 goin into the ninth inning. Yeah… we got extra innings. Usually I’d be stoked, but due to my lack of sleep and the hot weather it was dreadful. Around the 11th I started dozing. I went ahead and laid it down the entire 11th and 12th innings and woke up sometime in the bottom of the 13th. Just enough time to see the game winning seeing eye single. Thank God!

Afterwards we took a car to New Jersey to Jameel and Chandra’s house. On the way we were introduced to Singh, our driver. He put on a new song from the Bollywood movie “Singh is King.” It is an Indian film of course. I notcied a familiar voice in the chorus… it was Snoop Dogg! WTF! That boy is featuring in music in India! I was very amused. Here is the video:

When we get back home, Chandra’s parents are there finishing cooking Steak, barbecue Chicken, Sausage, & all the fixins. Man! What a feast! Afterwards Jameel, Hasan and I were seeing who could down the most Crown. Then we all had family time. The house was really nice with a great view of the city across the Hudson. It was a nice night.

Later on inside during the Olympics a conversation broke out. I don’t know how it came to it, but the Athletic Challenge that I issued months ago came up. Kev was talkin all kinds of shyt saying that I couldn’t beat him in any sport! Period!

Jameel was eatin this shyt up. The whole house was amused. Kev was talkin so much shyt that I for sure seemed like the inferior chump. Jameel proposed that we have the challenge the next day (Sunday) at P Diddy’s House. Yes I said it… Puff’s house. He said that he has a tennis court, basketball, swimming, etc. We agree. Before the challenge though Jameel asks for a preliminary push up challenge. We flip a coin to decide who goes first. I win and tell Kevin to go first. This guy can only muster 24 push ups before konking out. My turn. I start banging them out and then they tell me to stop out of mercy once I’m furiously going past 30.

Right then and there I smelled a weakness. I decided not to say anymore until after the challenge. Oh, but Kev kept goin. Sayin something to the effect that he was gonna wipe the floor with me. I let him talk.

We soon left and went back to the spot. The whole time Kev was walking with this swagger like he knew I was inferior to him. I took out my proverbial gas can and stored that fuel for the fight that was tomorrow.

Day 5: The Challenge

This day desrves it own post. I will leave you with a taste:

Day6: Its like Butter Baby!

After Kev left mid-day, Hasan started hypin me up about the night we were going to have. We kinda chilled before hand and just watched the Olympics. Usain Bolt was doing his freakishly super-fast thing! I mean… I gotta show video:

We head out at night to this place called Butter. This is one of the hottest spots on a Monday in all of New York. The restaurant part is on the ground floor. Very nice. Make sure you check out that link up above. We had a group of about 30. There were some heavy hitters in this spot. I won’t start name droppin, but there were a couple of Black Cards in purses and wallets at the table. I had the Colorado Rack of Lamb for an en tree. They brought all kinds of h’orderves and shyt. Little square beets and things. Look at the menu. We had all that shyt.

After dinner, this very sexy Honduran lady made a fit to pay the bill. That bill… was at least a month’s worth of work for me… maybe two. Then we skipped the crowded line and headed downstairs to the party area. Again, refer to the site. We were in the Birch Room area in the back right corner. We of course had that corner section to ourselves. We were next to these models in the next section. We were poppin champaign, Crystals & your normal bottles of Goose etc. I was standing in the booth next to the bodels catching the eye of this beautiful Kenyan model with the shaved Mohawk. I should have gone with her, but then this Amazon of a woman started hollarin at my boy Reggie and I took her Italian friend.

We were dancing our asses off. Ol girl had her hands all over NEIM. It was goin down! We decided to leave and see what it do. I suggested eats, but not before we took a hit of some gunja from one of our homies in the booth. That’s right… sticky icky.

We get outside and I find out Reggie was driving. I was like, cool! Alas… the girl I was with started buggin out. Scenario: 2 black dudes (one of em 6′7″) taking 2 white girls from Orange county to a truck. Sounds like fun to me, but the Italian bird freaked. The Amazon didn’t give a shyt, so I had to play wing man and take a cab with ol girl so Reggie could get outta dodge. I must pay homage to this song:

Yo Reg… you owe me a Coors! Lol!

Needless to say I babysitted the frantic darling then caught another cab home.

Day 6: Workaholic

The next day while working on some stuff at Hasan’s trying to shake the drunk off, Chandra hits me on text an suggests I spend the day with the fam. “Do ya have WiFi?” I shot over there with Hasan and spent most of the day in the living room while she slept and I worked on my PC. We ate and Hasan and eye called it a night. Well… Hasan did. It was about 11ish and I decided I needed to really grind so I walked to Starbucks on 42nd St. (Check out the street view) I was there until like 6:30am workin.

While I was there though, the strangest thing happened. These 3 cute 18-20yr old girls walked in and just went to sleep on the window stools. Weird.

Day 7: Lets Move

My last day in the big apple. I try to get some sleep, but I end up gettin up around 11ish. Hasan invites me to get a haircut at his barber’s. We moved out. It was cool chillin in the New York barbershop. It wasn’t that big and was just outside of the busy street. Just enough room to operate. They were watching the true story of the real 50 Cent.

This movie was like the ghetto CNN report. Funny.

Afterwards we trotted off to get Chandra and Jameel a birthday gift and cards. Trust me… walking around is story enough.

Later that night, we met up with Jameel & Chandra at this night spot called Taj Lounge. This place was pretty cool. The birthday party ended up being a star studded affair with the likes of Jay-Z and Sarah from America’s Top Model. That was just at our table. Yeah… that’s right. New York was very good to NEIM. I will have more pics from this night soon hopefully. (These are of course googled).

After that night of drinking etc. I decided to not sleep so I could on the plane… didn’t happen. I over slept and realized I lost my bank cards in the cab on the way home. In my drunken haze I didn’t feel them slip out of my slacks! I missed my flight and had to catch stand-by. It was $15 to check my bag which I did not have because of the bank card situation so I had to use my FedEx account to ship my big bag. I was at the airport around 6am and didn’t get home till around 10pm. So, I guess it had to even out.

Last thing… You will see why in the next post of the Athletic Challenge… Kev still hasn’t spoken to NEIM. I wonder why.

New York I love you! Special thanks to Hasan, my brother from another mother. Jameel, your mentoring and hospitality is priceless. Chandra, I’m so proud. Tarv, you’re still great! Hugh & Blyss my surrogate family. I will miss NY, but you know I’m comin baaaack! To stay… to be continued.

There are those moments… the moments where it seems as though time and space has ceased to exist. Those that claim to be able to foresee the future have described it as though they were looking in on a dream. Time and space stands still while everything happens all at once. These visions are usually seen through dreams and/or meditation. Enlightenment is what the Buddhist’s call it: to unite the conscience mind with the soul.

What if our soul is like a timeline; and through meditation or dreams we can see the events that have already come to be and moments that have not yet come to past. I wonder is that when Déjà vu comes into play? When we think that we have already experienced something when we haven’t.

I have heard that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Can you look in on someone else’s timeline? What if you see the reflection of times that she has felt sorrow or joy… triumph and defeat? What if you stare right into her essence… and as you enter the abyss of her soul you see yours staring right back at you?

Have you ever experienced a moment when you looked into someone’s eyes, which you just met, and there was something that seemed familiar? You look even deeper and then a sudden rush of tranquility hits. You find yourself in a state of soliloquy as you try and figure out the connection. All of a sudden time passes without your knowledge as you engage with this person next to you, oblivious to anything happening around you. You are lost in the moment.

I believe our souls, time and space are all connected somehow. Through our dreams we have visions of our experiences and our future. Our conscience minds are sometimes limited to the realm of the world in which we live and cannot fully comprehend what it all means. Can you imagine or have you experienced what its like to meet the actual entity of your dreams? Would you know? Most people forget there dreams soon after they wake. Sometimes we have those moments though where everything has a familiarity to it.

Love at first sight. Is it a myth? Is it possible? How can you truly love someone that you have never met? Maybe you are drawing feelings from experiences that have not yet happened… through a dream perhaps. Love is an emotion right? It is a feeling. I’m sure you have had dreams where you have experienced intense emotions. Is it fair to say that these emotions that you were having in those dreams were not real because they were dreamt? Have you ever woken up scared, laughing, or crying? I have. Those are real emotions.

So, according to the aforementioned theories love at first sight is possible. It is possible to recognize one’s self in another by looking into the eyes of another discovering that this person’s soul has a path that inexorably leads to yours that makes it seem as though time and space has stood still parallel to your dream or unconscious state of mind. You see a path to unite your conscience mind with her soul. The feeling now that you get from looking into her eyes is euphoric because this woman has become the very definition of enlightenment.

The energy of life goes in a circle in a perfect flow, balanced. Until you find your center, you will never be whole. Your soul’s recognition of its counterpart brings you happiness because that is your center. It is what makes us whole. I’m just saying there are those moments.

Who would have thought? NEIM a delegate? Not me. A year ago I was probably the main advocate for all things anti-government. I was so disenfranchised with the entire process it made me want to move to another country.

Over the summer though, I caught wind of this guy named Barack Obama. I saw and read a few articles on the man and for some reason I thought to myself, “This guy could be the first black President of the United States.” I didn’t even fully understand why I felt that way. It was something about him.

This Poster/Flyer is one of the many reasons I haven’t been getting any sleep lately. Hell, its 5am while I’m typing this! I have been very fortunate to be getting a steady influx of projects lately. I woke up on Sunday morning around 10am and didn’t get any sleep till around 9:30am Monday morning, but I was awakened with the project above around 10:30am and didn’t get back to sleep (completing various other projects) until approximately 5:30am Tuesday morning! If you were calculating, I was awake for 42½ out of 43½ hours!! Now that’s grinding!

I haven’t been blogging lately because I’ve been a little busy with projects. Here is a preview of some of my latest work.

The Tipping Point is a sneaker boutique that I made a website for.

I also designed a cover for a client for her scho

ol project. She needed something for the young girls that she’s working with to become entrepreneurs. She wanted to loosely derive it from the cover of this book called “Got it Goin On” and a previous design that I did.

This is one of the versions that I came up with that we eventually went with. She wanted colorful and feminine.

I also got the chance to do some advertising for Bangkok Chef. This was a slight change from the usual work I do, but I try to stay versatile. I’m

working on their website also that I hope to have up by this week.

Jumper (Review)

I can sum this movie up in 2 words: Short, Sweet. It was entertaining, but for some reason I felt either the studio or the director were afraid to push the limits. This movie could have done so much more. The studio I think wasn’t sure what the box office was going to look like. A movie like this should be let to push the envelope. The concept was cool, alas there was only 90 minutes worth of fun to be had. I have been noticing a disturbing trend going on in Hollywood cutting movies short due to the audience’s short attention spans. Artistic integrity shouldn’t be compromised for profit.

Hayden Christensen seems as though he wants to get to Orlando Bloom status. His performance was good, but he got upstaged by his co-star Jamie Bell. Now this guy is showing some talent. I’m looking forward to seeing some more of his work.

The veteran Sam Jacksonreunites with his fellow Star Wars Jedi and delivers his usual Sam Jackson performance minus the profanity. Sam Jack is the king of wigs as he relentlessly chases Hayden throughout the world. When does he find time to edge that white-hair doo up? Diane Lane, whom I will forever adore for her performance in “Unfaithful“, gives pretty much a cameo appearance setting up a potential sequel.

All in all the movie was a fun ride that could have used a little more story. We will probably get more in the sequel.

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (Review)

Somewhere along the line someone in Hollywood sold this script by saying that all you need to make a successful comedy is a collection of funny comics. They were wrong.

Roscoe Jenkins isn’t bad, but a movie starring Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer, Omar Epps, Michael Clarke Duncan, James Earl Jones & even the likes of Monique should have been a little better. When I saw “Super Bad” last year I couldn’t hear some scenes because I was laughing so hard. I was amused, but I felt somewhat let down. The writing could have been a bit better.

Don’t get me wrong… it was funny, but that cast is supposed to deliver gold!

Better than the Trailer: No

Worst Part: The predictable plot

Best Part: The Dice Game

Will Obama Be the New Face of America?

Barack Obama. Barack… Obama. Is Obama the new face of America? Has America been so blinded that we do not see what we have become? I myself have been so ashamed of saying that I am an American that I usually just say I am a man. I have , or should I say had, aspirations of leaving this country in search of a place that I can one day have a family that is proud of where they come from.

My peers would say, “You can’t find a place as good as America. You’re gonna want to come home.” In the immortal words of my man Isiah Whitlock Jr. (Sen. Clay Davis of “The Wire”) “Shiiiiid.” There are plenty of places in this world that I can escape the threat of war or a “terrorists” reaction to an oppressive government. I can most assuredly find affordable… oh wait, FREE health care abroad that is just as good if not better than the one I could possibly go bankrupt here for paying outrages fees and deductibles. I know you’re not going to tell me that my dollar is worth more than a number of currencies across the globe. Would it be so bad to live in a society that stresses family and common wealth instead of the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR. That was until I started listening. Listening to Barack.

Change. Sure, all of the candidates are saying it. Hillary Clinton says the same thing, but do we really believe her? Just being a woman isn’t a significant enough change. She comes off more to me as someone that just has personal aspirations of being the most powerful woman on earth. Sure she can lean on the Universal Health Care issue, but lets look at it more in detail. How will she achieve this universal health care? It will be mandatory by law. Kinda like car insurance. Sounds good you say? Look a little deeper.

Massachusetts has already tried this approach. The problem with this is that many citizens just can’t afford it. I don’t mean the poor people who can take advantage of medicaid and subsidies. I’m talking about those who make just enough where they are excluded from such subsidies and have to pay this insurance every month involuntarily. What happens to those who cannot afford it? They get fined! 1st offense is just a couple of hundred dollars. The next one is upwards of over $1,000! This is crazy! Will this effect people’s credit? Will the government garnish wages?! The main benefactor of this will be the insurance companies and not the people!

Obama on the other hand offers a way of making health-care affordable and available to all. Obama understands that health-care is just not in the budget for some families because of the cost. People shouldn’t have to be forced to cough up money they don’t have. This too does not completely solve them problem of health-care in this country, but it at least gives you an option. It still amazes me that we live in a country where its government can spend billions of dollars a year to wage a war in the Middle East over oil but it cannot afford to take care of its own citizens! Health Care should be free! Plain and simple. Doctors, insurance companies and drug manufacturers should all just make a little less money to benefit the whole. Like I said before, we live in a country that values money over anything else.

Obama inspires Americans though. He wants to change that line of thinking. He understands that America was great because of her ideas not its wars. Obama, spending 4 years studying abroad, understands that to make America great again is to renew those ideas of freedom and equality. He understood that when he opposed the war in Iraq vehemently before it all began. Do you ever stop to ask yourself, “Why in the hell are we over there period?” If you come to any other conclusion than OIL then you are sadly disillusioned. If it is hard for you to understand why “terrorists” hate us and plan to attack us then let me help you out.

Imagine that America was extremely rich in oil. Lets say that there is an abundance out in Texas and Arizona. Would we allow foreign countries to come in and say that our ways of government are unjust and we need to change or else. Then allow them to come and occupy Texas and Arizona under the false assertion that we had WMD’s (We have over 9,000 nuclear warheads) intended to do them harm. There would be know F’n way we allow that! We wouldn’t stand for them to be in the waters near our country nor in our neighboring countries of Canada and Mexico. So I ask you, what gives us the right to do what we do? We are so wrong its shameful.

We occupy foreign countries under the guise of spreading democracy as if we were in a medieval crusade to spread Christianity. All we did was cause chaos in an already chaotic region of the world for control over… OIL. Get this… Americans control it and we the people suffer for it. Exxon, Shell, Mobile and all of the other oil and gas companies have had their best years ever! They are making more money than any other company in the world and we are paying record high prices at the pump! So let me get this straight… thousands of Americans are dying and getting wounded (physically and mentally) every day for a few companies vested interests in crude oil that strains our countries economy by making everything cost more because of the cost of a barrel of black gold?!

That’s why I listen to Obama. He was adamantly against the war because he somehow had the foresight to see the bad direction we would go in as a result. He’s not thinking of personal gain, but his actions are reflecting his concern for his American people. Obama isn’t running for office because he wants personal gain. He is running because he loves and still believes in the idea of America that seems to be fading away. Obama seems to have gotten my attention and inspires me to believe again that one day I can be proud to be an American. He talks of using diplomacy instead of brute force to try and live in peace with the rest of the world instead of crushing it. Obama understands the steps we must take to free ourselves from the tierney of oil and in turn help reduce greenhouse gasses.

Obama has encouraged me to stick around and get involved in this process of healing this country. I can’t say that for the rest of the candidates. Hell, me writing an article about it in my blog is proof enough of inspiration. Maybe Obama’s message of hope and prosperity through means of action can reflect a renewed idea of America the Beautiful. I certainly hope so. I don’t want to be governed by the same fear tactics and greed that this government imposes upon its people. I want the true idea of freedom.

New Dedication

The Chinese New Year was yesterday and for some reason I felt a renewed sense of vitality. That was before I knew it was the New Year. January was an extremely trying month for me and I have to admit it has affected me. I haven’t been bloggin, I lost a client for the 1st time, and I haven’t shaved in nearly 2 months!! Not to mention my car got booted and towed (what a mess!). If you have unpaid parking tickets… don’t park downtown! I haven’t even been social. I have sort of disappeared.

Well I think everyone is entitled to a bad month from time to time. C’est la vie. That withstanding I have decided to dedicate myself this entire year for taking the next step in all the phases of my life. By doing so, I hope to inspire those around me to reach for greater things. I’m going to get my writing projects done. Finish my website. Improve upon my business model and solidify a steady client base.

I’m dedicated to this purpose. Let this be written evidence of the commitment NEIM is taking to become great at what NEIM does.

AVPR (Alien VS. Predator Requiem) (Reviewed)

WTF kind of BS was this?!! (SEE VIDEO BELOW)I being a fan feel totally ripped of this representation of the Alien and Predator characters!! I usually put up the trailer, but not this time! The Aliens are doing things that they have never done like turn pregnant women’s babies into Aliens. The new Alien is now just looking for pregnant women to throat rape. Who wrote this shyt?! The Predator who usually kicks ass no matter how shabby the writing was horrible. He looked the part, but he must have been in training. 1st off, the Predator is only supposed to hunt in the hottest climates. This rendition is in f***ing Colorado! 2nd, he only hunts for sport. This predator is obviously a sociopath as he kills any and everything that he sees. Someone wrote in a new blue ooze that the predator is now using to make all the carcases disappear. What I can’t figure out is how he keeps pulling out jar after jar after f***ing jar when in every scene he uses the last of it. It must be predator piss.

If I see one more alien burst through someones sternum I’m gonna scream! How many times must the crappy director get a close-up of the alien slobbering real close to his unsuspecting victim’s face?! Oh, and get this… the lazy writers even have an athletic woman risking life and limb to save a little girl… you know… like in the movie “Aliens” when Sigourney Weaver did the same damn thing!!! I won’t even get started on the hybrid Predator-alien.

Look… the movie sucked big donkey d**k, so if you’re truly a fan… don’t go see it. Instead, I will give you an awesome fan short film that was better than the worst 126 minutes of my movie life! Enjoy.

The Great Debaters (Reviewed)

Denzel Washington… Forest Whitaker… need I say more? This movie was everything that it was cracked up to be. That may have been its undoing at the Box Office. Although there were inspired stellar performances throughout the movie as well as it being a trues story, it lacked the “what’s going to happen next” vibe.

The story is very inspiring and may cause a new interest in some young people to study history or want to be apart of their own school debate team. For the younger audiences, the film should captivate them as maybe the “Jane Pitman story” or “Rosewood” did for my age group. I must assume that the film makers deem it important for every era to have a story of this type. Uplifting and positive.

It is definitely a stark contrast to the garbage that has been shuffled to that particular target audience. Albeit it may not have been as well recieved as a result it did somewhat poorly at the box-office this week opening at a disappointing 11th with just over $6 million for the weekend totaling $13 million for the week. “American Gangster”, Denzel’s previous film did a hell of a lot better with the subject matter seemingly promoting gangsters nation-wide. What does this say? If you’ve seen both movies, I would hope that you would agree that Debaters was a far worthier movie of all the adoration. The only equal attention that each movie probably received was the number of bootlegs out on the street.

Worst Part: The movie was very predictable

The Bucket List: (Review)

Corporate billionaire Edward Cole and working class mechanic Carter Chambers are worlds apart. At a crossroads in their lives, they share a hospital room and discover they have two things in common: a desire to spend the time they have left doing everything they ever wanted to do before they “kick the bucket” and an unrealized need to come to terms with who they are. Together they embark on the road trip of a lifetime, becoming friends along the way and learning to live life to the fullest. Each adventure adds another check to their list, all done with insight and humor.

Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholas play off each other rather well in this movie. Jack is his usual sarcastic witty self and Morgan Freeman is well… Morgan Freeman. I was prepared to sit back and watch a movie giving a perspective on what’s important in life and that’s exactly what I got.

It makes you want to not take life for granted as so many people do. Rich or poor, we all need to access what’s important and what gives us joy out of our lives. If you are lookin for a good movie to snuggle up next to your loved ones with, then go ahead and go see it.

Better than the Trailer: bout the same

Worst Part: It seemed that some of the places they visited were Hollywood Studios instead of the real thing

Best Part: Morgan and Jack

Theater or DVD: This is an older generation or date movie, so if you’re not in that genre… maybe DVD

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Reviewed)

Thanks Johnny Depp! I don’t need to link his name because you should already know who he is. I applaud his new movie! Its sure to garner multiple Oscar nominations! Its not for the squeamish though. If you don’t like seeing blood… go see it anyway

I don’t know how many times Mr. Depp and director Tim Burton have hooked up on movies, but every time they do its magic! You can go all the way back to “Edward Scissor Hands“, “Ed Wood“, “Sleepy Hollow” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory“, “Corpse Bride” and now “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (a nice website BTW). I don’t exactly what their relationship is, but I would bet on one giving the other’s euology at the other’s funeral. They are quite a tandem.

If you didn’t know… this is a musical. This is the best dark musical since “Little Shop of Horrors” and best overall musical since “Chicago“. The entire cast was fabulous! And guess what?!! Sacha Baron Cohenis in the movie! You know… Borat… Ali G! Big ups!

Helena Bonham Carter who has always been a favorite of mine since her masterful performance in “Fight Club” as Marla Singer. If you haven’t seen “Fight Club” go hit yourself in the head with a bat and as soon as your out of the hospital go f***n’ buy it and watch it! I’ll do you one better… as soon as I launch NEIM TV I will have it in the permanent line-up! You might also remember her as the hot looking ape in “Planet of the Apes”. Any-who, she was fantastic in the movie.

The rest of the cast was also superb. Allan Rickman, another favorite of mine turned in his usual excellent performance. There seems to also be another child star in the making if he can venture over to Hollywood, but he’ll probably end up in English movies.

Better than the trailer: YES

Worst part: Hard pressed to find any

Best Part:Johnny Depp of course (if this guy doesn’t get an Oscar soon….)

Theater or DVD: Go see it as soon as you can… its a treat!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Review)

If you think you might be late on arrival to see this movie keep this in mind… you have at least 6 more minutes after the previews. That is because Walt Disney Pictures has decided that we need a little more Goofy in our life. I don’t mean being “goofy”, I mean the Disney character from the 1930’s Goofy! There is a freakin old school cartoon featuring Goofy trying to set up his home theater system. WTF! Forgive me all of you Goofy fans if I have spoiled it for you, but I didn’t want to be reminded that I was in a Disney movie! I felt like I was sittin in front of my TV Indian-Style about to watch “Old Yeller!” I shoulda brought my lil sis for this one.

Anywho, the movie was somewhat decent after all of the Disney promotions were over. Yes, it gave you a sense that exploring history is fun. I can agree with that message of finding out for yourself. If you’ve seen the first one then you know that Benjamin Franklin Gates is somewhat of a wholesome Indiana Jones. Doesn’t have quite the same pizazz as Harrison Ford’s character though. At least you Jones wasn’t gonna take any shyt!

If you’re looking for a good family movie for children that are interested in history and adventure, then this is definetly a movie to take them to. Unfortunately as the Goofy cartoon and grand Disney opening reminded me… we live in a different world now where are youth are so absorbed with themselves that they don’t give a shyt about anything other than just that. That Disney song infact reminded me of the wonderment and innocence that I myself had as a child. I remember longing to go on an adventure like Gates does in this movie. It seems to me that most of our youth now are more worried about how much money they can make and fly they can look while doing it. My bad… that shyt was left-field. Back to the movie.

Worst part: Goofy cartoon

Best Part: It kinda makes you wanna open a history book

The new Batman Movie “The Dark Knight” trailer looks awesome!! I saw it before I watched “I am Legend” I was somewhat worried about if Heath Ledger could pull it off until I saw this trailer. Don’t get me wrong… I don’t believe anyone can outshine Jack in his legendary portrayal of the Joker, but Ledger seems to give a very interesting new face to the Joker character. I like how dark he seems. They need to go ahead and make this movie rated R.

The Golden Compass: Review

Hmmm. I take it New Line Cinema was looking for the next Lord of the Rings type of movie. Maybe they should have hired Peter Jackson to direct it. Don’t get me wrong, the movie is not bad. Its just somewhere in between “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and “The Lord of the Rings: Trilogy” leaning a little more towards the wardrobe movie.

I think that these types of stories require the 3 hour epic movie length to them. The story won’t seem so rushed. There are so many characters in the movie that there is no room for character development and we don’t gain the chance to have a connection with the characters.

Sir Ian McKellen does the best job out of all the cast to me as he voices the armor bear Urich. Daniel Craig (you might know him as the new James Bond) almost gives only a cameo in this picture. He must have a more prominant role in the sequels to come. Nicole Kidman was ok but the little girl Dakota Blue Richards was better.

All in all if you like fantasy movies and can really suspend your disbelief then you should enjoy this one. I don’t see what all the hoop-lah was about talking about the witchcraft and what not. It was probably because of the talking animals and the Daemons (every human is joined to a physical manifestation of their soul which is an animal). Its fantasy people!

Worst Part: Where’s Daniel Craig?

Best Part: The big ass Polar bear fight!
