HOUSTON, TX – Way too often I get wrapped up inside of my little cocoon of projects and I don’t get to participate in the happenings of fellow artisans. This was not one of those nights. I’ve missed the past I don’t know how many MFAH (Museum of Fine Arts Houston) Mixed Media events. Sure I’ve been to a couple, but its usually a pretty good experience getting slightly inebriated while pursuing a priceless art gallery. Its just something about it.
Days before the event, in which I loosely planned to go, a friend of mine won some tickets. She asked me if I wanted to go. How could I stay in when the universe said lets go? So I went.
I decided to bring my camera. I thought to myself, “Fcuk it. I’m a pro. I shoot for events professionally… how can they turn me down?” So I brought my business cards and finagling swag in hopes of getting some pretty good shots. Boy was I surprised.
Not only was I allowed in with my camera. I was allowed to take photos of any and everything within reach in the museum. WHAT?!! I literally asked them 5 different times was it ok even as I saw people with their camera phones snapping away. In retrospect I should have ventured more and took a bit more risks with my shots, but I was so surprised they let me shoot at all.
After I took a few photos I decided to enjoy the party a bit. DJ Sun and Melodic were spinning inside and there were a collection of performances entertaining the masses outside. The headliner was Lunice. He brought the energy with his music and capped off the night with a flare.
It was an overall fun night and I cannot wait for the next one.
